(TNS) Amid House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s pointless impeachment vote on Wednesday and the political posturing taking place between Democrats and Republicans ahead of an expected Senate trial next week, Buzzfeed reported something odd regarding Ukraine.

According to the report, Ukrainian authorities claim to have “opened a criminal investigation into whether the former US ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch was under surveillance by associates of Rudy Giuliani while in Kyiv last spring.”

Where did that come from? Seems random until you did a little deeper into the story and we begin to smell some Democrat rats:

Officials from Ukraine’s interior ministry announced the investigation in a televised briefing, citing a trove of documents released by House Democrats on Tuesday that included several cryptic WhatsApp messages between Lev Parnas and Robert Hyde that discussed monitoring Yovanovitch’s physical movements and electronic devices.

“Ukraine’s position is to not interfere in the domestic affairs of the United States,” an Interior Ministry official said. “However, the published records contain the fact of a possible violation of the legislation of Ukraine and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which protects the rights of a diplomat on the territory of another country.

“Ukraine cannot ignore such illegal activities on its territory.”

The link above goes to a Ukrainian government site which, loosely translated, says:

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, in accordance with the requirements of international and national law, guarantees the protection, security and inviolability of diplomats of any foreign country in the territory of Ukraine, including representatives of the diplomatic corps of the United States of America.

At the Interior Ministry took note of the content published on January 14, investigators of the House of Representatives about the possible illegal surveillance on the territory of Ukraine by the former US Ambassador Marie Jovanovich Ukraine.

It is known that the House Intelligence Committee published notes and other documents that during the cadence in Ukraine, US Ambassador Marie Jovanovich allegedly was illegally monitored and possibly tampered with by US citizens on the operation of her electronic gadgets. …

After analyzing these materials, the National Police of Ukraine upon their publication started criminal proceedings under part 2 of Art. 163 (Violation of the secrecy of correspondence, telephone conversations, telegraph or other correspondence) and part 1 of Art. 182 (Unlawful collection, storage, use of confidential information about a person, violation of privacy) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The ministry’s statement also features a screenshot snippet of a Washington Post story containing alleged quotes from encrypted messages of operatives the paper claims were working with Lev Parnas, one of two people indicted last month by the Southern District of New York — where Democrats and Robert Mueller go when they are seeking indictments against people associated with President Trump:

Not so ironically, this story — and the alleged Ukrainian investigation — began about the same time House Intelligence Committee hack Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the new impeachment manager, introduced last-minute ‘additional evidence’ that he claims supports the impeachment. As we reported Wednesday:

Early Wednesday there was not much coverage of it, but Schiff has sent a letter to House Judiciary Committee chair and co-impeachment conspirator Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) (see here) describing the evidence, which he says comes from Lev Parnas, an associate of presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

Parnas has been indicted by the Southern District of New York along with Igor Fruman on charges of conspiring to violate straw and foreign donor bans.

According to Fox News, Parnas and Fruman allegedly were “working with Giuliani to push for investigations of the Bidens. The two Florida-based businessmen were also leveraging political connections to Trump and other prominent Republicans to pursue a lucrative natural gas deal.”

Politico’s Andrew Desiderio broke the story on Tuesday evening. In the tweet below, he shares Schiff’s letter to Nadler and Parnas’ undated note to himself scribbled on a Ritz Carlton Vienna notepad. It says, “get Zalensky [sic] to Announce that the Biden case will Be Investigated. start commun[icating] with Zalensky [sic] without [Pinchuk or Kolomoisky].”

But we have no idea when the notes were actually written.

A couple of things.

It’s no secret that Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal lawyer, has been on a mission to discover the extent of Democrat Party interference in the 2016 election via Ukraine. POLITICO, along with ace investigative reporter John Solomon, have reported intimate details regarding the involvement — collusion, if you will — between the DNC, the Hillary Clinton campaign, and Ukrainian government officials in an effort to undermine then-GOP nominee Donald Trump’s campaign. (See here and here)

Also, we have to wonder where the Post got secret, encrypted communications; obviously someone leaked it, and in a certain context. Schiff is known for that kind of behavior.

And, where did Schiff get these secret encrypted communications? Yes, he’s head of the House Intelligence Committee, but that does not give him carte blanche access to private communications between American citizens.

Obtaining it improperly would be…illegal…a felony…and, thus, prosecutable under the Constitution and under statutory law, as we reported earlier this month.

Clearly, the Deep State is working its own connections to undermine Giuliani and, by default, the president. As for this supposed Ukrainian criminal probe, given the good relationship between President Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky, who himself has committed to ‘draining the swamp’ in his own country, we’re confident that this is a pointless exercise.

But someone needs to reign in the SDNY and remind federal prosecutors there they don’t work for the Democrat Party, they work for the president, the Justice Department, and the American people, in that order.

Regarding Yovanovitch, Giuliani has admitted he helped force her out as ambassador because she was corrupt, in the pocket of the Democrat Party, and possibly committed criminal offenses.

Also, during her impeachment testimony earlier this winter, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) correctly noted that the former diplomat did nothing to stop Ukrainian government collusion with the DNC and the Clinton campaign to undermine Trump in 2016.

And, of course, looming in the background is Democrats’ desire to ensure that Joe Biden gets the 2020 nomination; and they can’t have all his Ukraine-related corruption hanging out there like low fruit for Trump to pick.
