The Politics of HollyWeird: It’s all About Giuliani

Rudy Giuliani

Editor’s Note: Whether on screen or off, Hollywood can always be counted on to keep us entertained. This is especially true when it comes to politics. Join us each week as we shine the spotlight on Tinseltown’s A-listers and their whacky and sometimes inspiring takes on today’s current events.

As President Donald Trump struggles to fight against possible voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, Tinseltown tabloids were quick to insult Rudy Giuliani. Rolling Stone, a left-leaning, anti-Trump publication, took a jab at the former mayor as well as Fox News:

“Fox continued its internal battle with the truth on Thursday as they aired a Rudy Giuliani presser with the full knowledge that he would continue to lie about election fraud to anyone that will listen. But less than an hour after giving Trump’s lawyer a major platform to spread misinformation to a wide audience, Fox News’ Kristin Fisher told viewers that what they just consumed was unmitigated nonsense.”

Rudy Giuliani

From Hair to Perspiration, to Court: HollyWeird Talks Rudy Giuliani

The magazine continued with a quote from Fisher: “Well, that was certainly a colorful news conference from Rudy Giuliani, but it was light on facts. So much of what he said was simply not true or has already been thrown out in court.”

However, Vanity Fair takes the award for writing the most mundane pieces that really have nothing to do with politics and everything to do with, well, vanity. Or so it would seem. One article titled “Rudy Giuliani’s Hair Dye Melting Off His Face Was The Least Crazy Part of His Bats—t-Crazy Press Conference” only briefly mentioned the sweating attorney, but it did take the opportunity to insult and condemn not only Giuliani, but also the president’s insistence of voter fraud. After bearding Giuliani, the article read: “unfortunately for Trump, both he and Giuliani became untethered from reality several decades ago.” It continued:

“So despite the fact that their odds of success are on par with those of Biden nominating Jared Kushner as Secretary of State or replacing Kamala Harris with Ivanka Trump on the 2024 ticket, they’re apparently intent on not only dragging this thing out as long as possible, but doing so in the most unhinged, mortifying fashion possible.”

Giuliani’s sweating issues are apparently top reporting for Vanity Fair, which published another article with “Here’s What’s Probably Happening to Rudy Giuliani’s Head” as the title. The piece briefly touched on what kind of temporary dye products he probably used. It ended with the jab: “The important thing to remember is that not everybody who sweats is trying to bring down democracy, but everyone who is trying to bring down democracy is probably sweating.”

Celebrities Talk Trump

Hollywood, as we all know, leans quite a bit to the left of the aisle. Its celebrities are hardly shy about sharing their feelings with adoring fans. A few of them came out from behind the stage lights this past week to throw hate speech at the president.

Alec Baldwin

An avid anti-Trumper, Alec Baldwin tweeted out a message that, had a Republican or Conservative dared to attempt, would have been censored, banned, and condemned. On Nov. 15, Baldwin tweeted that Donald Trump should be “buried in a Nazi graveyard with a swastika on his grave.” He then added: “The majority of Americans made the right choice. Trump is a maniac.”

The actor doesn’t just despise the president; he also has harsh word for Trump’s supporters. In January, he said: “The desecration of those ideals and the near moral collapse of this country falls squarely in the lap of Trump’s supporters… as opposed to Trump himself, who is merely what psychology labels the ‘objective negative function.’” And in February, he attacked once again, saying: “You wonder how Hitler took control of a once great country. For those of you too young to recall the War or its aftermath, simply watch how this GOP-controlled Senate behaves. Their sniveling fealty and lack of courage. And you begin to get it.”

But not everyone in Tinsletown is anti-Trump. Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight has a strong message for Americans, calling on people of “all colors, races, and religions” to “fight now for Trump’s victory … as if it is our last fight on Earth.”

Cheers and Jeers

Sometimes, HollyWeird players make headlines for silly or bizarre happenings, so here is a collection of newsworthy doings — honorable and dishonorable — by the tenants of Tinseltown.

Harvey Weinstein Wants Court Delayed

Harvey Weinstein

On Nov. 19, Harvey Weinstein’s attorney, Imran Ansari, told the court that it would be almost impossible for the former film producer to sit for a deposition because of his ill health. “Mr. Weinstein’s health has had a dramatic decline this week, as heavily reported in the media,” the attorney wrote in a motion. “These health concerns make it practically impossible to conduct his deposition and impedes his fundamental right to participate in his defense.” The current deadline for the deposition to be completed is Jan. 29.

Weinstein does not currently have COVID-19. His current health issues, though, include diabetes, coronary artery disease, arthritis, spinal stenosis, high blood pressure, and other problems. This puts him at increased risk for contracting the virus.

In 2018, Alexandra Canosa, a former Weinstein company employee, sued the former producer for alleged repeated rape and assault using a retaliation to her career as a threat.

Tune in next week to see what else Tinseltown has planned.
